Paper recycling on campus resumed after a two-week break in June, so please
use the blue bins as before. Facilities Management has taken over responsibility for recycling
and is expected to announce the new guidelines soon. The "First Monday" monthly collections of
paper from home will not resume, but Waste Management's Houghton recycling center now accepts
all the types of paper we used to recycle on campus and more. (Note, however, that staples
must now be removed from office paper, in addition to paper/binder clips.)
See
http://emml.mtu.edu/gem/community/recycle/recycle.htm for Waste Management's new guidelines and
information on other community recycling opportunities.
Thank you for your support of the previous paper recycling program coordinated by the Environmental
Sustainability Committee from Spring 2002 through Spring 2008 in cooperation with the Facilities
Management building operations and grounds crews and student volunteers from SAVE, Circle K, and
Students for Environmental Sustainability. The program was a success (if we do say so ourselves!),
and we have the numbers to prove it. Click
here to see.
